Erato: Brand Building and Social Media Design
Designing a flexible visual identity for an independent lit magazine.
“To write is to spill one’s soul on the pages. I hope this magazine, my personal love letter to the world, helps you lose yourself in the adventures that lie within the millions of souls out there. ”
Erato Magazine, edited by the lovely Celia Tran, is a non-profit lit mag that punches above its weight. Taking its name from the muse of love poetry, it aims to make art and literature more accessible while platforming emerging writers and artists.
The name led the brand work. For this project, I developed a suite of social media templates and custom illustrations in Canva. This included a guide for collaging, and a library of assets, so contributors could learn how to make their own to accompanying new work. The collages assembled images from neoclassical sculptures and print materials. This created a flexible design system that could represent all sorts of themes, from the concrete to the abstract. Fitting for a lit mag.
If you’ve read this far, I was also briefly a contributor to Erato. You can read one of my fave pieces, a review of the HR Giger: Metamorphes exhibition, which ran from 11 June to 19 November 2023 at the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery, Czech Republic. My review exploring the dark, textured world of the Swiss visionary as is available here.
